Softest Twist Outs Ev-ah!

This is the sister post to Sometimes Laziness Pays Off. That easy, moisturizing routine set the foundation for my softest twist out ever, eh-vah! And the best part? My hair remained soft and moisturized for a whole week without any additional co-washing or moisturizing. Whoop whoop! Here is the full round up of the products I used for the wash and styling (not shown is the green and peppermint tea I used for my tea rinse). For my 1, 2, 3 run down on what I did, check out this post: Sometimes Laziness Pays Off | My Simplest, Most Moisturizing Routine

My simplest, most moisturizing routineAfter hopping out of the shower, I wrapped my hair for 15 minutes to soak up excess water. Since I detangled in the shower (step 3, with True Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner, go read the post linked above for the full deets!), my hair was ready to go.

I applied True Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner, a few drops of OGX Vitamin E Oil, and then Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. My hair was completely detangled so I didn’t bother using a comb – just my fingers to part and rake the products through my hair.

Day 1 – After after unraveling the twists

My hair had thankfully dried overnight, so when I unraveled my twists and found extra soft, smooth, defined twist out hair? I may or may not danced around my bathroom. I was over the moon y’all. I wish you could feel how soft my hair was through the screen.

Day 2

This twist out actually ended up lasting the entire week, with my hair just as soft as day 1, something I hadn’t been able to achieve until this twist out. 7 whole days with a soft twist out? I didn’t think I could do it until it actually happened. Now normally, I don’t do anything after I unravel my twists other than making sure I sleep on satin pillowcases to prevent moisture loss from cotton. Last week, I actually retwisted my hair every night. Every. single. night. That may seem like a lot of work but I promise it only took me about 20minutes to quickly retwist. Retwisting helped me preserve the texture and I also think that having my hair tucked away in the twists helped my hair retain moisture as well. The 20minute retwist was so worth it.

Could lightening strike twice?

wash day products

At the end of the week, I found myself wondering if lightening could strike twice. Could I achieve a bomb, soft, defined twist out that lasted the week a second time around? This weekend I used the same steps outlined in this post, with one difference: I used SheScentIt Curl Moist Conditioner. Long story short? Hell yeah lightening strikes my twist outs twice! It’s only day three, but I have high hopes for the week (I’ll snap a pic of day 3 hair when I get home this eve being). Here’s my twist out that I unraveled Monday morning. Oh, and for leave ins I used True Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner + Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.
