How Did It Do?

One of the products I’ve been using during my hiatus is this gem, Silk Hydration Replenishing Conditioner. When I told y’all I was doing the bare minimum, believe me, I was. By the time I finally summoned the gumption and energy to return to things I love doing, i.e. my hair, I was surprised my hair wasn’t more worse off than it was one. This conditioner is one of the products that’s helped me maintain the health of my hair and stop it from morphing into the Sahara Desert since I wasn’t deep conditioning weekly. I’ve been using this conditioner as a pre-poo and after co-washing on days that I skipped deep conditioning.

Hair with Replenishing Conditioner – applied to dry hair

This conditioner works well as a pre-poo treatment, helping me detangle my unruly hair, instantly softening and moisturizing my hair. My hair should have been much drier from the treatment (or lack of) I’d given it when M.I.A., but this conditioner definitely helped me restore moisture on wash days as well as help me detangle my crispy kinks without causing excessive breakage.

This conditioner does a great job at sinking into my strands on application. Whoop, whoop because no one loves a conditioner that uselessly sits on top of strands right?

I tend to be heavy-handed when it comes to product application (much to my wallet’s dismay), but this conditioner spreads well and after 5 uses I still had more than half a bottle left.

This conditioner also contains ingredients I look for (and my hair swoons for) when purchasing conditioners, like behentrimonium methosulfate and cetyl alcohol. Behentrimonium methosulfate is a conditioning agents help detangle and provide moisture. Cetyl alcohol is derived from vegetable oils like palm oil and coconut oils and is a fatty alcohol. Fatty alcohols are emollients, moisturize and condition our hair, and provide slip.

Other ingredients of note: diazolidinyl urea is an antimicrobial preservative. Propylene glycol is as a humectant (humectants soften hair and by drawing moisture into the hair shaft), can be used as a preservative (antifungal and antimicrobial properties), and an emulsifier.

Silk Hydration was created by stylist L. Jones and her line is full of gems. I LOVE, like my-heart-smiles type love, seeing fellow women of color don their entrepreneurial hat and create and claim a space in this world that’s all their own. I’m so pumped to see how her brand grows. Pop on over to her site to check out her products and show support.

This conditioner is part of an awesome set I received from Silk Hydration so more reviews from this line are on the way! Check back next Tuesday for my review of Silk Hydration Leave-In Conditioner.
