A Failed Perm Rod Set Turned Updo

In getting my hair back on the right track, one of the things I needed to address was breakage. I haven’t done a protein treatment since I cut off the last of my relaxed ends last April so I was much overdue. To curb my breakage, I started by co-washing with True Co-Washing Cleansing Conditioner (love this co-wash by the way!), next I applied Paul Mitchell Wild Ginger Keratin Intensive Treatment to my hair for 5 minutes. I loved this protein treatment as a relaxed gal and I love it now that I’m natural. It strengthens without stiffening, and leaves my hair smooth. Once I’d rinsed out the protein treatment, I deep conditioned with TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask (my review) for an hour with my Hot Head Conditioning cap.

For leave-ins, I used True Nourishing Leave-In Conditioner and OGX Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum. Instead of rolling from the bottom up (like I usually do), I used the coil method, coiling my hair around the rod starting at my roots. I also started a two strand twist before setting my hair on the rod to make it easier to separate the curls.
