Your hair is?… Relaxed (this includes texlaxed)

When and why did you start your hair journey?
I don’t really have any particular start date. I’ve always been a fan of healthy hair. However, I do believe I began obtaining healthier hair during my freshman year in college (2000). My roommate at the time introduced me to roller wraps, and I haven’t let go of them since lol.

What is your current regimen?
My current hair regimen is rather simple. I wrap my hair every single night, wash it every other week (roller wrap), and relax my roots with a sensitive scalp relaxer (Mizani with Shea Butter) every 6-7 weeks; my hair grows very quickly. My hair stylist applies my relaxer since I am unable to relax it myself. She also roller wraps it though she thinks I’m old school with it, lol. But oh well! It works lol

Do you have any hair goals? Have you achieved them?
My hair goals are really to just maintain healthy, strong hair. I’m very simple and I don’t do a whole lot with my hair. If anything, I’d like for it to continue to grow longer.

How did you achieve them? How are you working to achieve them?
The best way I maintain my healthy hair is by refraining from heat application, avoiding blow drying, and avoiding any hairstyle that creates pulling at the roots. I very seldom wear ponytails. If I want my hair out of my face, I place a loose clip in my hair, but allow absolutely no pulling at the scalp.

How has your hair journey impacted other parts of your life?
I guess I wish I had known about the effects of heat at an earlier age.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you bounce back?
Occasionally when I take a shower, the back of my hair (kitchen) gets wet. In the past, it created dry hair back there, and caused my hair to break off from being so frail and dry. So now I ensure my hair is covered up with the shower cap completely.

What are your favorite protective styles? I don’t have any lol. Does wrapping count lol?

What are some of your favorite products?
Olive Oil Deep Pentrating Conditioner. I use it everytime I wash my hair, and I usually sit under the dryer with it for about 20 minutes, then rinse it out. I also like Elasta QP as a setting lotion.

What do you love most about your hair? It’s thickness and length.

How do you deal with people who doubt you? What motivates you to keep going?
God motivates me to keep going. And as far as the people who doubt me, I don’t pay much attention to them. Everybody has their own opinion. If they have have a problem with my hair, they actually have a problem with themselves… and that’s not my problem lol. I say do you, and I’ll do me. If I can’t inspire you, maybe somebody else will.

What advice would you give someone just starting out on their journey?
When I was in highschool I accidentally set my hair on fire when I was leaning over into the top drawer of my dresser lol! The candle was sitting right on the edge of my dresser and I wasn’t paying attention smh…

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 5 things (e.g. conditioner, bobby pins) would you wish you had?
My hair dryer, rollers, wrap scarf, shampoo, and conditioner! Oh and a comb! But that makes 6 things doesn’t it lol?!
