First Quarter Goal Review + April Goals

Okay, this post is late because I seriously forgot I even had quarterly goals! When I decided to switch from monthly to quarterly goals it felt like a good idea… but uhhhhh, it wasn’t for me. Monthly check ins help keep me accountable so back to monthly goal-setting I go. Here’s my review of how I did from January to March.

[1] Seal with my ceramide-packed butter [completed]

I started off strong with this goal, using my ceramide-filled butter to seal 2-3 times a weeks for most of January and February. In March I predominately used hemp oil and then Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum to seal in my moisturizer. Since the goal was to actually use this better as a sealant… and I did… I’m going to check it off as completed.

Ingredients: grapeseed oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, jojoba butter, vitamin E oil.

[2] Maintain the health of my ends [completed]

Keeping my ends moisturized, with protein to strengthen them (either by doing a protein treatment to my ends, or strengthening my hair against breakage during the week with CHI Keratin Mist or Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum). To protect my ends from the elements and my clothing I relied on buns and faux bobs, my two “go-to” protective styles.

[3] Continuing babying my nape [completed]

My 6 month nape challenge provided the perfect set up for this goal. For more on what worked for me during that challenge, check out my nape challenge posts: July | August | September | October | November | December | January

[4] Stretch my relaxer to 39 weeks (end of March) [completed]
When I first made this goal I honestly wasn’t 100% sure I was going to keep it. I’ve been so indecisive about whether I’m going to transition to natural or not, but after seeing my mother’s excitement after I told her I’ve been putting off relaxing my hair to cheer her on (she’s natural but doesn’t like her natural hair) it was easy keep my jar of relaxer tucked away in my cabinet.

[5] Use up at least 3 products [completed]

Products used up: As I Am CoWash Cleansing Conditioner, HairVeda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner, and KerapHix Restorative Conditioner.

[6] Drink 1-2 liters of water a day [completed]

I used to hate drinking water when I was younger. Now I love, love, love ice-cold water. I don’t go anywhere without a water bottle so this goal actually ended up being the easiest to complete.

[7] Reduce shampooing to twice a month (the other 2 weeks I used a co-wash conditioner instead of shampoo) [completed]

Check and check. I used As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner for soft, clean, conditioned hair. I chose to decrease how often I shampooed because I noticed that regardless of careful I manipulated my hair when shampooing, it still contributed to more tangles than co-washing.

[8] Workout a minimum 3 times a week [failed]

3 times a week? Um, no. 1 to 2 times a week? Yes. Shame on me.

[9] Flexi rod or curlformer set [completed]

Check and check. I did this flexi rod set in March and it ended up lasting 5 days. The curls dropped a bit and got bigger as the week wore on, which I actually ended up preferring.

Goals for April

• Hot oil treatment every wash day.
• Use my steamer!
• Do a roller set or flex rod set of some sort. Options: either a ponytail roller set, mesh roller set, magnetic roller set, or flexi rod set.
• Yoga practice/exercise a minimum 3 times a week.
• No candy, no chips.
