Product Review: Matrix Biolage Hydratherapie Conditioning Balm

Price: $22.00 for 16.9 fl oz jar (but I purchased while on sale for $14.99)

Purchased At: Ulta

Promises: Conditioning balm revives dry, stressed hair with the continuous moisture replenishment it needs to look healthly, silky, and lustrous.

Directions: After Hydratherapie Shampoo, massage onto wet hair. Rince.

Ingredients: Aqua/Water, Propylene Glycol, Myristyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Decyl Oleate, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum/Fragrance, Methylparaben, Aloe Barbadensis/Aloe Barbadensis Leave Juice, Ethylparaben, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Coumarin, Linalool, Citric Acid, Passiflora Edulis Fruit Juice, Bisbolol

My Assessment: I love this conditioner. I’ve deep conditioned with it on dry and freshly washed hair and both times it has left my hair soft and well conditioned – although I must say I prefer to use it on dry hair vs freshly washed damp hair. After deep conditioning on dry hair with heat, my hair feels more moisturized, just “right.” I have done the strand test after use, and my strands successfully stretch without breaking and then slowing return to the beginning length.

I love that the product comes in jar so I can scoop out every last drop once I start to run low and because I’ve also begun mixing Roux Porosity Control with my deep conditioner, the packaging makes it easy to consistently measure how many spoonfuls of the product I will need each time. I wish all my deep conditioners came in jar! This condish has a thick consistency, which I love. There’s not much science or logic to this, but I always like thick conditioners just do more work haha; a runny deep conditioner just doesn’t seem serious to me haha. I’m not a fan of heavily fragranced products, but luckily the scent of this conditioner isn’t heavy but still has a noticeable and appealing scent. I will definitely rotate this conditioner during my deep conditioning sessions and even went back to Ulta to grab another jar while they were still on sale because it’s highly unlikely that I’ll be willing to purchase a jar at full price.

With smiles,
