Henna Results

My henna mix and recipe for this application is posted here: Revamped Henna Recipe | Henna, Hibiscus & Aloe Vera

After letting the dye release for 5 hours, I co-washed my hair with WEN Lavender Cleansing Conditioner and applied the henna mix to my hair. It’s MUCH easier to apply henna to damp hair so I either co-wash my hair before applying henna or dampen my hair with a spray bottle. Once my hair was fully coated, I wrapped my hair up with saran wrap and popped a winter hat on my head.

I really didn’t feel like staying up late to rinse out my hair so I decided to sleep with the henna still in. Now I’ve slept with henna in my hair before without issue, but this time made me never want to do it again. I slept half the night tossing because I could feel the henna dripped out from under the edge of the saran wrap. My miserable night was totally my fault. I forgot to wrap my head up with a turbie twist towel to catch any drips. Lesson learned!

In the morning, I rinsed the henna from my hair section by section until the water ran clear, co-washed twice with Tresseme Luxurious Moisture Conditioner, and then deep conditioned with HairVeda Deep Conditioning Hair Masque for an hour. After rinsing out the deep conditioner, I was over the moon to see the tint in my hair! Especially in the areas where I have natural highlights that pick up the dye more readily.

The addition of hibiscus helped bring out redder tones in the henna and the aloe vera helped provide a bit more moisture; my hair definitely didn’t feel as dry as it can after first rinsing out henna.

After checking out my red highlights from every angle possible in my bathroom, I applied Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner and Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Twisting Soufflé section by section and twisted my hair. When I reached the last inch of each twist, I applied Haitian black castor oil to my ends to seal in moisture.

I let my twists dry overnight and unraveled them in the morning. The humidity added extra fluff during the day but I have no complaints! Y’all know I love big fluffy twist outs.

  1. The results of the henna treatment are awesome. I definitely need to try making the hibiscus tea.
As it appears more potent in bringing out red tones, which is also my goal when I apply henna.
