Hair Story Feature: Meet Jay Jay

When and why did you start your hair journey?

I started my hair journey on March 11th, 2014. After looking at some natural hair videos on YouTube and how healthy, versatile and beautiful natural hair is, I decided to go back to my roots and cherish the natural that I was born with. The love for my hair grew more and more everyday and I continue to reap the rewards of such love; thick, long, luscious natural hair!!

What is your current regimen?

I shampoo and deep condition my hair once every week. I always pre poo either overnight or for 2 hours before washing. After washing, I put leave in conditioner and then twist my hair into protective style using my homemade Shea Butter Hair Moisturizer. This lasts me for the entire week, keeping my hair very well moisturized until next wash day.

Do you have any hair goals? How are you working to achieve them?

My hair goal is to let my hair grow as long as it possibly can while at the same time maintaining it’s healthy and thickness.

What do you wish you knew at the start of your journey?

My natural hair has taught me to love every part of me and to know that it is all a gift from God; one to cherish and love for the rest of my life.

What are your favorite protective styles?
My favorite and only protective style is mini twists. Sometimes I wear them down, but majority of the time I always style them to protect the ends more.

What do you love most about your hair?
I love the thickness of my hair above all. It gives life and body to any style.

What is the funniest or strangest hair related experience you’ve ever had?
To enjoy luscious, healthy, long hair, a tremendous amount of love and dedication must be put into its care. Be consistent with your regimen. Always handle your hair with care; being very gentle and loving in everything you do with it. Do not be discouraged by how long and thick someone else’s hair may be. We are all different and your time will come. Be patient and understand that everything takes time. You will see results. Don’t get tired, confused and lazy. Always show your hair love. In the end, your hair will love you back.
