Happy New Year! I hope 2016 ended on a great note for all of you and that 2017 rolled in full of promise and excitement. Between starting a new job and making a personal commit to live life rather than just exist, it’s been hard to balance life off the net with life on the net. In some ways it felt good to step back after 6 years of constant blogging and take an unplanned break and other ways, I hated it. Just Grow Already has become a big part of me and I missed interacting with JGAers (yes, I still call you awesome readers that!). I’m excited to get back to blogging, sharing, and helping.
During my hiatus I made sure continue my healthy hair basics: deep conditioning weekly with a moisturizing deep conditioner, using a moisturizing leave-in + sealing my hair to lock moisture in, wearing my hair in protective styles, and strengthening my hair with protein treatments when necessary to maintain moisture/protein balance. I’ve been able to maintain the health of my hair but I want to be more pro-active and purposeful with my hair care this year and really achieve the goals I’ve set for myself. Here are my goals for 2017.
[ONE] Reach waist length or longer this year (my first length check of 2017 goes live tomorrow morning at 10). Grow and retain is the name of the game.
[TWO] Win the seemingly never-ending war with single strand knots. Single strand knots are pretty much the only issue I have with my hair. They drive. me. up. the. wall. I’ll definitely be looking into effective ways to prevent and reduce SSK this month because gah! They’re annoying. I’m tried of picking up my shears to snip out some SSK every week.
[THREE] Get back into the habit of hot oil treatments + scalp massages. I couldn’t tell you the last time I did either one of these gems. The bad things is my hair flourished when I consistently did hot oil treatments and scalp massages. Shame on me. The oil mix I have in mind is emu oil + castor oil or jojoba + a few drops of peppermint and eucalyptus oil.
[FOUR] Try more products! Usually the goal goes the other way right? “Try less products, reduce my product stash, use up products.” Well I’ve been on the use up/reduce stash train for months and I’ve really tucked into using the handful of staples I know come through for my hair every use. It’s time to start branching out and trying new products again. I still have a list of reviews to share with you on the products I’ve been using and loving so those goodies are coming.
[FIVE] Try more styles. I could be the poster child for lazy stylers. I like to do what’s easy and what requires as little fuss as possible. That approach works well for reducing manipulation but it gets boring. One new style a month sounds doable right?
Welp, that’s all folks, those are my four simple goals for the year but I’ll probably some up with short term quarterly or monthly goals to help motivated like I used to do.
Do you have any goals for 2017?
