Hair Story Feature: Naomi

Name: Naomi

Your hair is? Natural

When did you start your hair journey? What inspired you?

I have always been natural, but I only properly started taking care of my hair 2 years ago, so I call it my ‘hair care journey. I was inspired by women on YouTube and noticed after a lot of straightening and disregard my hair started to become quite thin.

Describe your hair for us.

My hair is bra-strap length, it is low porosity and it is type 4B/4C.

What is your current regimen?

I actually have a video on this lol! I shampoo once every 2 weeks and deep condition, I also try to throw in a hot oil treatment every month. I also trim my hair every six months which leaves my ends looking very healthy.

Do you have any hair goals? Have you achieved them?

I want to reach waist length, but I am not so obsessive about length, more so about healthy hair. I do focus on adding a lot of moisture to my hair, especially because I have low porosity hair. I also love doing protective styles because it does mean low manipulation.

How did you achieve your goals? How are you working to achieve them?

I research so much about hair and the ingredients that are in the products, it helps me focus on my hair goals which would be waist length hair. I think I could achieve this with a good regimen, and balancing protective styles and wearing my hair out.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you bounce back?

Not really, I had a trim that I thought was more than a trim but after a while I just told myself it’s just hair, it’ll grow back.

What are your favorite protective styles?

Halo braids, a bun and a wig!

What are some of your favorite products?

Shea butter, coconut oil, Olive Oil Leave-In Conditioner.

How do you deal with people who doubt you? What motivates you to keep going?

I don’t listen to doubters nor do I surround myself with negative people. I keep my end goal in mind and work diligently towards that despite what people think.

What advice would you give someone just starting out on their journey?

Be patient with your hair and enjoy every step of the journey.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 5 things (e.g. conditioner, bobby pins) would you wish you had?

Coconut oil, silk scarf, Shea Moisture Style and Curl Milk, big hair tie, edge control.

What do you love most about your hair?

The versatility.
