How Did It Do?
I gushed about this gel in last week’s post on turning a frizzy braid out into a high puff so you already have an inkling about how much I like this gel. This is light-weight, does not flake, does not make my hair feel coated, and does not dry out my hair.
I used EcoStyler Gel (crystal and olive oil versions) and aloe vera gel prior to trying this gel. Compared to the consistency of both EcoStyler and aloe vera gel, this gel is much thinner. While EcoStyler and aloe vera barely move (they jiggle), this gel is thin enough to drip when scooped, which I love because its consistency makes it easy to apply and spread evenly through my hair. Unlike the gels I’ve tried, it settles well, to the point where after a few minutes it looks like a brand new jar… that fact is not really one of consequence because what really matters is how it performs, but it’s still nice to see.
Any who. What I really like about this gel is how much hold it provides and how long it keeps my edges smooth with just one use… which it sort of deceptive to me because of how light-weight the gel is. This was my hair when I first applied the gel to my damp hair + tied down with a silk scarf to smooth.
Three days later, my edges hadn’t frizzed up too much after not wrapping my hair once (I sleep on satin pillowcases) and without reapplying the gel since the first day.
As for its claim that it “mends detectable damage,” my edges weren’t damaged when I started using it so I can’t report whether this gel lives up to that claim. And for its claim that it is “loaded with essential vitamins and nutritive ingredients,” the ingredients lists is packed with goodies: avocado oil, vitamins C, D, and E, biotin, silk amino acids, pro-vitamin B5, slippery elm extract and marshmallow extract (ingredients commonly found in products that provide slips).
All in all, this gel is a winner to me. It’s light enough to be used daily without flaking or noticeable build up, and provides long-lasting hold. and one that I will repurchase. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
HAVE YOU USED THIS GEL? LIKED IT? LOVED IT? LEFT IT?
