Wash Day | I Can Never Not Pre-Poo

My hair felt like the Sahara Desert by the time wash day rolled around. I’d been wearing my hair in a puff after last week’s braid out got too frizzy and raising the temp in my apartment to combat the fact that winter finally decided to show up only dried out my hair. Add in the fact that ends love to coil and hug each other and you have a recipe for breakage and heartache if I even tried to part my dry hair.

I started off by dampening my hair with water + glycerin, then I applied Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle and left it in for about 20 minutes. The slip this conditioner provides is much appreciated. It made it easy to finger comb out any tangles and shed hair.

After I’d fixed my Sahara issue, I used Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner and then followed up with a green tea rinse for this week’s Wash Day Experience theme. As a long-time lover of tea rinsing, it felt great to do one. Here’s a cheat sheet on the benefits of tea rinsing.

Sidenote, KLP of Saving Our Strands did a green tea infused tea rinse, and I’m totally stealing her tips for when I do my first oil rinse! For more info on tea rinsing and its benefits, check out these posts: Black Tea Rinses: How To & BenefitsReader Mail: How Do You Do Your Tea Rinses?

Leaving the tea in my hair, I squeezed the excess liquid from my hair and then applied deep conditioner right on top, SheScentIt Banana Brulee Moisturizing Deep Conditioner from last week’s wash. Remember when I mentioned that this conditioner sunk into my hair so much that I wondered if I had used enough? It wasn’t a fluke.

I ended up with a migraine so couldn’t finish my hair and had to deep condition overnight. I pinned my 4 chunky twists around my head, tucked it all under a plastic cap and then under a hat to keep the cap from moving while I slept.

The next morning I rinsed out my hair, hopped out the shower, and shimmiiiieeeeeed.

Softness ✓ Tangle-free hair ✓ Smooth hair (I’m a sucker for smooth strands) ✓ In my mind my hair whispered “thank you, I love you.”

With my hair still wet, I applied leave-ins (Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner – review for this will be posted Friday morning – and Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie) and twisted my hair (20 in total). I’ll post the results tomorrow morning!!

  1. I’ve been having headaches the last couple days and you popped into my head actually because I remembered you have chronic migraines. Everytime I have a patient with a similar issue, you come to mind. Sorry to hear you are still dealing with this! Anywhoo, I need to start DOING my hair again. I’ve been cheating with wigs/weaves during my transition but now that I’m fully natural it is really just laziness! Reading up on your hair chronicles is helping to give me my mojo back!
