Wash Day | Braid Out In Progress

Last week’s flexi rod set lasted longer than I’d expected (yay!) On day 4 my curls had gotten too messy to continue wearing down so I pulled my hair up into a messy updo and left out a few pieces for a bang (photo below was taken on day 6).

[1] To prep my hair for wash day, I sprayed my hair with water + glycerin (60% water, 40%) and finger combed through my hair to remove shed hairs.

This week’s Wash Day Experience theme is “something old” – grab your old products and use them up. I pulled out my long-time fave conditioner: HairVeda’s Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner, now named Deep Conditioning Hair Masque. I’ve loved and used this deep conditioner for about 4 years now I think. It’s one of the products that worked extremely well for my relaxed hair and has continued to work for my now natural hair. I also used up Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner.

Alrighty, back to my steps. [2] After finger combing, I applied the conditioner to my hair, starting first at my ends. Applying conditioner to my ends first makes it easier to part my hair into smaller sections, which = less potential to cause breakage while separate my ends that love to coil around each other. Once I’d applied conditioner to all of my hair, I warmed up my Hot Head conditioning cap in the microwave and deep conditioned for an hour.

After deep conditioning

I’m a bit sad I used up the deep conditioner because my hair felt great afterwards and I’m the dummy that didn’t stock up on during HairVeda’s Black Friday sale like I normally do. [3] Once I’d rinsed the conditioner out of my hair, I co-washed with Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner. Per my norm. I work in sections (dividing each quadrant into two), smoothing the product down the length of my hair, massage my scalp with the pads of my fingers, and rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse afterwards. If I don’t get all product off my scalp, my scalp revolts against me during the week.[4] Using a t-shirt, I squeezed the excess water from my hair, applied my leave-ins (HairVeda Whipped Creme Hair Moisturizer + Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé) gentle detangled a section with my seamless jumbo rake and then braided my hair, 12 braids in total… that make me feel like I’m 10 years old -_-

[5] I’ll let my hair dry overnight and loosely wrap my hair in my silk scarf to prevent it from frizzing before going to sleep.

That’s all folks. I’ll post the results tomorrow once I take out the braids in the morning. Pleeeeaaaasssseee cross your fingers for a happy (and dry!) ending to this story in the A.M.!

  1. Your style lasted for a nice amount of time
You could have probably gotten a few more days out of it if it werent for the need to wash
So while I have never had issues with dryness and detangling, I'm totally stealing your glycerin tip 🙂

Thanks! My hair ended up not drying completely but it was still a success 🙂
