My love affair with marley twists continues. Towards the end of my transition, they gave me a much needed break and I’ve gotten use to how easy/fuss free marley twists; I’m not ready to part ways. It had been 2 weeks since I last wash and deep conditioned my hair so my tresses were due for some pampering.

[1] Pre-pooed with Shea Moisture Intensive Hydration Conditioner + coconut oil on top for 2 hours with my Hot Head conditioning cap.
[2] Cowased with As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner
[3] Coffee rinsed.
[4] Deep conditioned with Silk Dreams Vanilla Silk Cream Moisture Dream for 15 minutes under my steamer.
[5] After letting my hair cool, I rinsed the deep conditioner out and squeezed the excess water from my hair.
[6] Then I applied my leave-ins (Kurlee Belle Thirsty Kurls Leave-In Conditioner & Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum) and put my hair back into my marley twists.

I start my twists off as if I’m doing a box braid and then switch to twisting once the hair feels secure. It takes me about 4 hours to install my marley braids. As for long these twists will be in, I normally keep my twists in for 1 to 2 weeks before taking them down to deep condition and redo.

How was your recent wash day? What’s your favorite protective style?

Our wash day link up is still open and we’d love to have you, join the tribe!

  1. Today Hair loss is one of the most common problems faced by millions of people all over the world. As we see that a large number of peoples has the problem with their hairs problems like whiteness, blandness and weak hairs. So, bring a good hair regrowth medicine for you.

  2. I keep saying I want to put my hair up in Havana Twist but I can't talk myself into doing them. You know I have a ton of hair but with me running, I'm going to have to suck it up and put them in. Tell me why your pic just reminded me that I have some Vatika Frosting in my stash? lol #productjunkieproblems

  3. My wash day went pretty good.
    I ended up
-Washing my hair with Miss Jessie's Creme De La Curl (Now called Co-Wash) Shampoo
-Deep conditioning under my steamer with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque (augmented with Coconut Oil and Mane N Tail conditioner for slip)
-Twisted my hair with Camille Rose Moisture Milk, Tahitian Monoi Oil Leave In
    -Sealed with Shea Butter.

I bought a couple of jars of the As I am Co-wash, and initially my hair loved it…now it seems to get a little hard after I rise it out. Perhaps there's more protein than my hair can handle I don't know.

I've been thinking about incorporating pre-pooing this summer. I do have a Hot Head cap as well. I think I'm going to try it next wash day.

I also need to get my Marley twist game up. It looks nice on you!

  4. Love, love your hair! I've thought about getting some braid in as well, just to give myself a break from styling. We'll see.

    Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience

  5. Jen you plait marley twists like that and only keep them in for 2 weeks! ! I respect your diligence and dedication levels to protective styling! I think it would take me much longer to install braids so, I can plait but I know it would take me longer! Do u have a video on how u do ur twists? I wonder if its a technique thing or a moving fast thing…

I see you have a steamer And a heat cap. What are the benefits of having both? Yes I got lots of questions!

  6. They look super neat Jen! How long does it take for you to put them in?

  7. Gorgeous twists Jen! I'll be getting some next week actually…which may turn into my fave protective style. We'll see!

Do you think it's necessary to have a protein-focused wash day before installing a long-term Protective style?
