My Assessment

After seeing how well my hair has responded to As I Am Coconut Co-Wash and Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner, I’ve been curious about what other co-washes my tresses might like. After scanning the ingredients and seeing that it contains a lot of goodies my hair loves — aloe, marshmallow root, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol,  Stearalkonium Chloride, and vegetable glycerin — I decided to give it a try.

Quick review of some of the ingredients my hair likes:
• Behentrimonium Methosulfate — is a conditioning agent that provide moisture and help detangle hair.
• Cetearyl Alcohol — a fatty alcohol is an emollient that moisturizes, conditions, and provides slip.
• Stearalkonium Chloride — anti-static agent, a surfactant and an antimicrobial.

The directions indicate that it may be left on for up to 15 minutes. Although I’ve never left it on for the max 15 minutes, I’ve left it on for 10 minutes and my hair wasn’t a fan of that. After 10 minutes, it left my hair feeling more stripped than a cleansing conditioner should. After that little adventure, I vowed never to leave it on that long.

My normal routine (working in my usual 4 sections when washing my hair) is to apply the co-wash to my hair by applying to my roots and working to down the length of my hair. I work each quadrant of my hair for about 3 minutes and then rinse, leaving behind cleansed, still soft, and most importantly, not stripped hair. This co-wash also rinses out well, and doesn’t stick to my scalp and hair.

In comparison to my current fave, Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner, CD provides a bit more slip. In comparison to As I Am, it’s not as stripping. This cleansing conditioner falls somewhere in between the two. Would I repurchase? Most likely yes during a sale; it’s a nice go-between two faves. CD’s Cleansing Conditioner is available at my local Target so it’s easier to pick that up on the ground.

Have you used this cleansing conditioner? Liked it? Loved it? Left it?

  1. I love the smell and the slip of Carol's Daughter co-cleansing milk. But my FAV Cowash remains Eden Body works coconut-shea moisturizing co wash. Every time i use it my hair is clean, moisturized and Fluffy. It feels like I just deep conditioned not washed my hair. Have you tried any other She-Scent it products?? Am eyeing the Banana Brulee DC.

  2. I haven't tried this one. I've thought about it many times but decided against it. I'm trying to do a better job at focusing on items I can get on the ground. That's a struggle because handmades is where my heart is at.

  3. I purchased the Shescentit Blueberry Co-Wash Conditioner during a sale at the end of last year, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Thanks for the review. Just Natural Cleansing Conditioner and Karen’s Body Beautiful Delicate Do No Poo are two co-washes that I recommend.
