Wash Day

I really didn’t want to wash my hair. I kept putting it off. I thought about pre-pooing, detangling, and then whatever style I’d whip it into… and I just felt exhausted. My well of transitioning patience is running low y’all. Unless it rains soon, there will be a drought and drastic measures will be taken.

Said well almost ran dry last night. I’d just finished deep conditioning and was stared at my hair seriously considering the big plunge. I snapped this pic and sent it to my friend who helped talk me off of the ledge… for now.

Here’s my wash day recap:
[1] Pre-pooed with Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner. I maybe moisturized my flat ironed hair twice since my last wash day (shame on me I know, but life hasn’t let me be great lately) so I had to use a good moisturizing deep conditioner for a pre-poo to give my hair some TLC.
[2] After pre-pooing for about 45 minutes under my Hot Head heating cap (this one), I rinsed the conditioner out and co-washed with Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Cream.
[3] Next I tea rinsed with… you guessed it… peppermint + rooibos + green tea.
[4] After leaving the tea in, and wrapping my hair in a towel for 15 minutes to soak up all excess water, I applied SheScentIt Curl Moist Conditioner to my hair and deep conditioning for about 15 minutes under my heating cap. I normally spend about 45 mins – 1 hour under my heating cap, but it was past 11pm and all I wanted to do was finish up my hair a.s.a.p.
[5] Once I’d rinsed the conditioner from my hair, I t-shirt dried for 15 minutes and then set my hair with my curlformer dupes.

For leave-ins I used Kurlee Belle Thirsty Kurls Leave-In Conditioner + Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum + Paul Mitchell Moisture Mist to rewet any sections that had dried too much. I used 89 curlformers and let them air dry over night.

The next morning I slipped the curlformers off, shook my head, and dashed out the door. (*I didn’t bother separating the curls*).

I’ve pretty much ignored my flexi rods ever since I got my curlformer dupes… a comparison post between the two is definitely in order!

How was your recent wash day? Is anyone else fed up with their hair?

  1. I DEFINITELY know those "omg I can't take it" moments. I must've missed a big trim during my unintentional blog hiatus. You have so much new growth! Glad you were able to hold off til you are REALLY ready though!

  2. The curl former results are amazing but you will find your hair soaking up so much more hydration after the chop!

  3. I can't wait for you to chop! I'm excited to see what styles you come up with. In the mean time, your hair always looks amazing!

  4. Your curls look amazing as usual, and an 80weeks post transition is amazing! I get the sneaky feeling you're coming with a big/minichop post soon? Girl whatever you do, your hair will be fabulous, no doubt about that one!

  5. I can't wait for the comparison post. I always hear such negative things about the dupes. I just have too much hair to invest in "real" curlformers. lol

  6. Your hair looks gorgeous Jen! I think I'm feeling similar to you. I'm so fed up with my hair at the moment, I don't want to style it, brush it or wash it, all I really want to do is cut off my bone straight ends. Hopefully you feel better about your hair soon x

  7. we are in the same boat! I installed box braids so i wouldn't be tempted to cut. I swear if you big chop ill be right behind you and big chop lol.

I'm so tempted to put some havana twists in my hair and leave my hair for 3-4 weeks. Some time apart would do us good haha. Yay, big chop buddies lol!

  8. Your curlformers are always banging. When ever you are ready i'm looking forward to you being a full naturalista.

  9. Your curls are divine, please hold on a while longer before you cut it off.

  10. I second Kristal's comment. When you are truly ready for that big chop you will definitely know. Just remember that your Curl Former dupes are always there to rescue you when you're on the edge! 🙂

  11. Beautiful as usual! That chopping itch is strong I see. I am rooting for you to press through until you are absolutely sure you are ready to chop.

Oh yes, it's strong! I'm surprised I still have relaxed ends with how scissor happy I've been these last couple of months! Thank you!!

  12. Yes Jen, I feel for you! Lately I've been discouraged with my and want nothing to do with it. I can't even imagine you putting 89 curl formers in your head plus it was really late at night. I would've been over it lol. But for your hair it's worth it and your hair is beautiful

Halfway through I wanted to quit, I grumbled and sighed the entire time lol. Thank you!

  13. Yes Jen, I'm fed up with mine! So much so that I put it away in crochet braids so I wouldn't have to deal and be tempted to cut it off.
