30 Days of Moisture: Challenge Check-In

Thank you to everyone who joined Jay of Relaxed Thairapy and I for this challenge! My hair loves moisture so this was my second favorite 30 day challenge so far (the ceramide challenge is my first fave… no surprise there, huh?).

GAME PLAN REVIEW I kept my goals short for this month:
[1] Deep conditioning weekly with a moisturizing conditioner ✓
I washed and deep condition with a moisturizing deep conditioner every weekend like clock work because my hair would most likely revolted if I did other wise. Between working out and the need to keep my line of demarcation sufficiently moisturized to preserve my hair’s elasticity to ward of breakage, I can’t NOT deep condition.

The two deep conditioners I used during this challenge where HairVeda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner, a long time love and staple product, and a newcomer, SheScentIt Curl Moist Conditioner that I’ll definitely be rotating among my staples in the future.

[2] Use my steamer when pre-pooing or deep conditioning ✓
Mission accomplished. I even got around to removing mineral building from my steamer (details of how are in this post).

[3] Co-wash ✓
I co-washed for this wash day with As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleaning Conditioner, and this one with Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Cleansing Conditioner. The days when I predominately shampooed are long past so

[4] Moisturize and seal at least every night ✓
Lately I’ve pretty much been using only HairVeda Red Tea Satin Moisturizer, and of course grapeseed, for my moisturizing and sealing combo. This moisturizer still has a delayed effect where on application is doesn’t feel like much is going to happen but I wake up with moisturized hair that remains moisturized during the day.

[5] Use protein as necessary to proven moisture overload ✓
Providing my hair with ample moisture to ward off dryness and breakage is all fine and dandy, but my hair also needs protein to keep my moisture levels in check. For my protein needs last month, I did protein treatment with Silk Dreams Mocha Silk Infusion during this wash day. Going a less direct route, I used a protein leave-in: Komaza Care Matani Leave-In Conditioner during this wash day, and a couple times during the week I used my beloved Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum when wearing my hair down a couple times.

Share your challenge update:
Now for the good stuff! I’ve read updates that many of you have sent me during this challenge and it’s been awesome to read how well this challenge was going for you. I wanna read some more so pretty, please, won’t you share your update?

P.S: There are a couple moisture-focused posts I didn’t get around to posting that are still in the queue, like my video on how I deep condition that I’ve edited and need to upload this week, how to choose a moisturizing leave-in, and a couple homemade deep conditioner recipes that are worth hearing so those are coming! And in case you missed a challenge post, have no fear, you can find them all below:
