L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner (First Impressions)

After posting the list of products and oils that contain ceramides, I took a look at my staples and realized I didn’t have conditioner that contained ceramides. A quick trip to Target fixed that. I picked up L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner ($3.99) and Damage-Erasing Balm ($5.99). I’ve used the balm once last year but you haven’t read anything about it because like the clutz that I am, I spilled the entire jar before I could use it long enough for a proper review.

Left: with conditioner • Right: after towel drying for 20 minutes.
Anywho… I’m a sucker for conditioner so I grabbed these two and skipped over the shampoo (since I no longer shampoo often). As is my norm for the first wash day after I use direct heat, I opted to pre-poo using conditioner rather than do a hot oil treatment. I applied L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner on dry hair and covered with my Hot Head conditioning cap for 45 minutes. On application it sunk into my hair and detangled well. After rinsing out the conditioner, I co-washed, tea rinsed, and wrapped my hair in a towel for 20 minutes. After taking down the towel my hair felt so smooth… soft fluffy hair and not a raised cuticle in sight. Happy Jen? You bet! Even after deep conditioning my hair remained smooth. I’m excited to see what longer term benefits my hair will reap from this pre-poo.

Have you used this conditioner? What have you been pre-pooing with for the 30 Days with Ceramide Challenge?

  1. I love the erasing Balm but haven't tried the regular conditioner. Your hair looks great.

  2. I recently found a sample pack of this conditioner that I had forgotten about. After reading your post Jen, I can't wait to use it.

  3. I haven't tried the conditioner, but really like the balm. Loreal did a great job with that one. Side note: look at all that new growth! Love it!

  4. The UK version looks so different, but I've used the regular conditioner before and didn't mind it. I would be interested to try the masque/balm. Great review Jen x

  5. Ooh, I like the US packaging so much more than the UK. Your hair looks great (but then it usually does)!

  6. Here in the UK it's called the Full Restore 5. I found both the rinse out and the mask a tad middling. I was really disappointed. Until they came up with the Full Restore 5 Extreme! It helps me retain moisture, especially after a protein treatment. I use it almost weekly now and I can tell the difference if I don't. In the words of one of my favourite Supernatural extras, it's extreme.

  7. I've used it once and I loved it! But am such a junkie I keep trying other things that I forgot about it. It really softens, detangles and moisturizes well. And the shine is awesome!

  8. I absolutely love it!!
