(Co-) Wash Day

DSC08556[1] I purchased a bottle of KeraVada Amla Oil (contains coconut oil, grapeseed oil, amla, and extra virgin olive oil) and decided to give it a try this week. Normally when I only co-wash I’m a little hesitant to apply oil to my hair b but figured I’d take the chance since this oil mix wasn’t thick. I applied it to my scalp and the length of my hair. If felt nice and silky on my hair and helped me slide out shed hair while gently finger combing through my hair. After pinning my hair in four loose sections, I covered with a plastic bag and then popped my Hot Head heating cap on my head for 45 minutes. KerVada is currently giving JGA readers 20% off their oils with code “WELOVEJGA

[2] Co-washed with Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle.
[3] Tea rinsed with mix of lavender, fenugreek, chamomille, sage, and green tea.

[4] Wrapped my hair in a cotton towel to soak up excess water and deep conditioned with Hairitage Hydration Pink Grapefruit Punch Conditioner. I ended up deep conditioning much longer than I had planned. I just wasn’t wasn’t feeling well at all so I ended up leaving in the conditioner for nearly a full day before I felt well enough to get up and rinse out my hair. Here’s the softness my hair had going on after my marathon deep conditioning session. I haven’t rinsed the conditioner out yet in this pic:

[4] After rinsing out the deep conditioner I wrapped hair with a cotton t-shirt for an hour.
[5] Applied leave-ins: Hairitage Hydration Soft Coconut Marshmallows and Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, and detangled my hair.

[6] Aloe vera gel + silk scarf on my edges and then I let my hair air dry in a loose bun.

Welp, at 17 weeks post my current stretch is officially the longest one I’ve ever done. I was feeling like this stretch was my easiest thus far until I sat down to detangle. Because I always try to channel as much patience as I can when working out tangles, it took me 90 minutes to fully detangle my hair. I had a quite a few tangled spots. I think it’s because I skipped my mid-week co-wash/deep conditioning session this week, which normally helps loosen any tangles and shed hairs I build up halfway through the week. Note to self: if I continue to stretch my relaxer, do not skip my mid-week co-wash!

I’ve been rotating between Pura Body Naturals Murumuru Moisture Milk and Hairitage Hydration Soft Coconut Marshmallows as my moisturizes and have been loving it. My hair has been feeling so moisturized and smooth in between washes that any breakage I might have at the line of demarcation has been reduced quite a bit. *Throws confetti*

The only “problem area” I have is the same one I started my hair journey with: the left half of my nape. The hair there grows in tighter coils and tangles easily so I’ve been paying extra attention to the hair there, especially since it’s also the spot I have the most breakage in.

Keeping my hair moisturized + low manipulation + mid-week co-washing/deep conditioning will be my game plan until my next next wash day.

How was your most recent wash day?

  2. Great job stretching for so long! With regards to your tangles, have you tried a clear rinse lately? I did one recently and it has really reduced my detangling time. (I'm 15 weeks post BTW)
