Price: $16.99 for 8 fl oz bottle. For this review I purchased the 4 fl oz bottle (no longer offered) for $8.99

My Assessment: When I first started using Hair Trigger Growth Elixir, I promised I would track my progress by taking weekly pictures. I slacked on actually taking pictures every week, but 6 weeks out of a 10 week stretch isn’t bad (I hope). During the week, I used Hair Trigger for my scalp massages every other day and on wash days (all but one wash day actually) I applied Hair Trigger to my scalp as a pre-poo (pre-shampoo treatment).

I ended up buying two bottles of this product. For the first bottle, I opted not to purchase a fragrance for an additional $4.99. I was being cheap and thought I could handle the “normal” fragrance. I was wrong. Without an additional fragrance, the product smells very herbal-y and it’s pretty strong. I ended up purchasing a second bottle with the vanilla poundcake scent. The normal scent was just too strong for me and I was pretty self-conscious about anyone around me smelling it in my hair. I personally thought the vanilla poundcake scent was a little overpowering when I first opened the bottle but it faded and ended up smelling sweet and pretty nice.

When applying the elixir during the week, I had to make sure I wasn’t heavy handed because it’s a fairly heavy oil. I also had to rebottle it in a color applicator bottle with a much narrower nozzle. It’s great the product comes with a applicator nozzle but I think the nozzle’s design is a bit flawed because it’s pretty wide, causing more oil to be dispensed than necessary. I used the bottle shown here.

Shipping was also very fast. I received a shipping notification about an hour after I completed my order and received the product 3 days later. This elixir also helped soften up my new growth.

All in all, I love Hair Trigger most for its impact on my shedding. Black tea, garlic, and onion all help reduce hair fall and I experienced noticeable reduction in weekly shedding and shedding on wash days. As for a “growth explosion” I can’t say I really experienced one. I did grow a little bit more than normal (seen better in the second picture below) but it was no where near double or triple the amount I normally grow in 10 weeks.

Because the 4 fl oz bottle is no longer offered I don’t know if I’d be willing to purchase a 8 fl oz bottle for $16.99 without a sale. I also wouldn’t repurchase solely for growth aid purposes because I just didn’t see the double/triple growth spurt or 1.5 inches in one month the product claims to produce, but for shedding, I’d definitely repurchase.

I’m sorry the week 9 picture is off-center!

  1. I made a purchase in May and have yet to receive my products. What’s worse I emailed you several times to rectify the problem and I did not receive a return response. I am more than sure you have an amazing product but I would not know because I did not receive anything; a return email, my merchandise, or a refund. So in other words, YOU received my money and gave me ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in return? Is that the way business is conducted? I own a business and if I conducted my business that way….I would lose customers (who are extremely important). I understand your company is busy and you want to reduce the amount of incoming calls but I am not able to call you as there is not a listen phone number I don’t know if you have figured out how extremely frustrated I am…… but I am!!! How do we rectify this matter?

  2. The international cost to yhe UK is over priced

  3. Hi, first just let me say, the information I've researched about this product seems almost too good to be true. However, I will give it a try. Now here are my statistics. I'm presently wearing my hair natural. Haven't had a perm in 20 years. So most times, I'm braided or I may go to the salon and have it lightly thermal straightened. However, I'm am starting to notice some thin spots. Exactly in my crown area (edges and nape are great) right now. Been to the Dr. all is well hormonally, but the thinning is really getting the best of me. My hair grows pretty well and at this moment is just past my collar bone. What hasn't been explained in the tutorials is how the product should be used by a first timer. I understand, the scalp application, however the pre-poo part, I don't think I can handle. Also the last part is not clear. This would be my first time trying hair care products and I'm not to thrilled about doing so many steps. Is it possible to just buy the first step and hopefully that would be enough. I would also like to know how the product smells without adding extra scent.
    Can you help?

Hi there, the directions listed are that come with the product, however, you're not obligated to use it strictly as directed; it's a bit much. I used this product two ways: I appled a little to my scalp and massaged during the week, or as a pre-poo treatment where I apply to to my scalp for X amount of time before proceeding with my normal wash day.

  4. I bought a bottle as well, the Piña Colada scent is yummy. I have been using for 3 weeks and I can see a bit of diffrence in growth. My hair only grows 1/3 or an inch per month so 1/2-3/4 of an inch per month is an improvement for me. I bought the cayenne pepper booster to add to it. Thanks for the review, you have lots of growth for just 2 mths.

  5. I just bought a bottle thanks to your review, I shed like crazy I hope this works for me. I thought is was very sweet a personalized thank you card came with it. I am definitely going to use this as a hot oil treatment and prepo.

  6. Do you recommend this with or without the scent? How long have you been using hair trigger?

    1. Author

I prefer it with a scent… without an additional scent, it has a strong herbal smell. I've been using it October 2012.

  7. Great review and I totally agree. I like it for prepoos. I got the regular scent so I was too self conscious to use it daily. It smelled like straight garlic and onions to me lol. It's a really nice, thick oil though.

  8. i was waiting for a review on this from u…great review! i still think i wanna try it

  9. I always enjoy your reviews! You write well!

  10. Did it make your scalp itchy? Mine was itchy out of control! Only been using it for a few weeks so far.

    1. Author

My crown area became very itchy while I used it.

    2. IIt did make my scalp itchy and also a burning sensation.we will keep checking on it to see will the itching stop.

  11. *reviews your hair regime* I get that kind of growth in half a year so it may not be hair trigger but you are doing something (alot of things right).

  12. I totally agree with your review on hair trigger… It's pretty good but I don't see the "explosion" of growth. I'll repurchase when there is a good discount sale although shipping is a bit steep.

    Your new growth resembles mines.
