A few weeks ago I sent Darcy’s Botanicals an email on what ratio of moisturizer to water they would recommend if I wanted to dilute my beloved Coconut Lemongrass Transitioning Creme (CLTC) to make it easier to spray from a bottle. A rep responded and advised that I use 2 parts moisturizer, 1 part water.

Well, I completely forgot about the tip until last night. I was giving myself a scalp massage and realized how freaking dry my new growth felt. I’ve been moisturizing the length of my hair every night, but because my new growth requires more time I’ve just been skipping it… hence the Sahara Desert I had sprouting from my scalp. Thankfully on my way to grab my bottle of CLTC, the tip came to mind.

Luckily I had an empty spray bottle on hand. I love Target for their travel sized section – which is where I scored this bottle for a buck. I filled 2/3 of the bottle with CLTC and 1/3 with filtered water from my shower and got down to making my new growth happy.

I only wish I had remembered this tip sooner. It was such an easy task with my spray bottle. After spraying my new growth and massaging the moisturizer in, I sprayed the length of my hair, then sealed with grapeseed oil (just the length of my hair, not the new growth) before throwing my hair back up in a loose bun. My new growth is soft and moisturized again… and I have no reason to be lazy and ignore my new growth again 🙂

  1. The product is no longer on the website..Is there another option I can try?

  2. Hi Jeni,

Love your blog!! If you are moisturizing with Darcy's and sealing with grapeseed, how are you incorporating Hair Trigger? Just pre-poo?

      Hi Leann, thank you!

I also use Hair Trigger for scalp massages during the week

You can if you'd like. I just don't to save time. I seal the length of my hair because the hair there is older.

  3. I was going to try Darcy's but then I found Jamaica Black Castor Oil. I love this stuff! I apply it to my roots once a week and I'm fine. I'm 5-months post now trying to determine if I'll go natural. I also use Mizani H20 nightcreme and that stuff is amazing! It contains everything that the natural nazi's hate – mineral oil, silicones but I suffer little to no breakage since I started to use it. Its amazing!

  4. I've got a question about moisturizing in this way. I've tried it but when I do it leaves my roots wet and then they obviously dry curly. Does this not happen to you? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for clarifying!

My roots soften up, but not wet, but I use a very small amount though. If it's too watery, add it bit more moisturizer to the mix. Let me know if that works!

  5. I'm doing my very first stretch and I also had to get that moisturizing in a spray bottle because my new growth was starting to look like cotton. I'll be sure to check out Darcy's cream though. I always hear good things about it.

  6. I like this tip. Because I purchased this moisturizer and another one during one of their sales and haven't been using it on my new growth just out of sheer laziness. But spritzing the NewGrowth is doable. Now, I'm kind of looking forward to trying this out after 6 weeks post, hopefully I don't forget when that time rolls around.

  7. Nice! I'm so much lazier with sprays than I am creams though. I feel like I just haphazardly spritz and call it a day, lol.

  8. Thank you so much for this tip. I bought the same creme as you a few months ago. BUt as you stated it's tedious moisturizing my new growth with it. So I'm definitely going to try what you just did.

  9. I'm transitioning and my go to is aloe spritz from butters and bars –it is so amazing. It's a little expensive 8-9.99 but so worth it. I can't live with out it

  10. Just wanted to say I ♥ your blog and I use the same combo for moisturizing my new growth. Looking forward to Darcy's Black-Friday sale so I can get more CLTC.

Thanks Dee! DB is definitely on my Black Friday wish list

  11. Hey Jeni , my new growth is soo dry too . I need to do this as well. By the way , I'm loving the new colors on your blog page. By far the best blog layout I have ever seen.

  12. I don't know why I stopped moisturizing my new growth like this. I need to start back. Oh and by the way it's your fault that I ordered the vanilla silk and chocolate bliss deep conditioners from Silk Dreams. Lol Can't wait to try them.

Lol!!! Sorry! 🙂 Let me know how it goes with the Vanilla Silk!
