Product Review: Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship (HE LTR)

Price: $3.09

Purchased At: Target

Promises: “This is the beautiful beginning of the ends Smooth them with a kiss of protective conditioning that strengthens your hair against split ends and breakage. I’ll help keep your hair from splitsville with my quenching formula fused with extracts of red raspberry and satin. I’m a tip treat with a silky finish that feels so good.”

Ingredients: Water/Eau, Stearyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Rubus, Idseus (Raspberry) Juice, Hydrolyzed Silk, Dimethicone, Glutamic Acid, Fragrance/Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol, Cittic Acid, Sodium Chloride, EDTA, Propylene Glycol, DMDM Hydantoin, Red 33.

My Assessment: I was at Target on afternoon after work wandering the hair aisle and spotted this. I remembered that many relaxed hairs loved this as a moisturizer so I decided to grab a bottle for me and one for my cousin, although she has yet to use hers so I might just steal it =). For the last 4 weeks, I’ve been using this to moisturize every night and I’ve noticed a decrease in broken strands from manipulation. After I wash and DC, I let my hair air dry and then apply HE LTR, seal and then detangle and I’ve loved it. I’ve noticed less hair loss from detangling. After I wash and DC, I apply HE LTR as my leave-in, then CHI Silk Infusion, air dry and then roller set. My roller sets come out so soft. It’s very light and does not weigh down my hair at all. All in all, this provide has lived up to its reviews for me. It’s now one of my staple leave-ins/moisturizers.

  1. You can still find the old formula at big lots or the dollar store. Since the bottle has been repackaged they are not in Target, CVS, or Walgreens anymore in the red bottle. The new packaging has the same ingredients but the cost has gone up

  2. I can't find this product at CVS or Target anymore. It's also not listed on HE website. Do you know whether it was discontinued?

It has been reformulated and renamed, it's now called herbal essences touchably smooth split end protector… Haven't tried the new version yet though so I don't know how it compares to the old version.

@tay: Looking forward to your review. I've learned that using this in moderation works best. HHG!

  4. i know i'm really late in commenting on this particular post but i love HE LTR Split End Protector–I will soon have a review posted as well! at first i was skeptical of it because it does have a hardening effect if I apply too much (most likely the protein), but once I ceased being so heavy-handed with it, I found that my hair loves the stuff! thanks for the review!

I've only found this in Target but I do see them in every Target in my surrounding neighborhood. Aww that's sweet of her!

I most definitely think it's the protein that's aiding in curbing breakage, and I love it for it! I moisturize nightly with this and since I also use a protein shampoo every wash, I've been making sure I deep conditioning with a good moisturizing condish under heat cap to max the benefits.

  6. Ooohh em geee!!! I love HELTR!! I can never find it in stores near me so I had my bestie in Pittsburgh buy my like 4 bottles and mail them to me lol.

I'm thinking the protein in it is what helps to decrease breakage…
